Optimus Bank has mobilised employees, volunteers and community stakeholders for a beach clean-up exercise in Lekki, Lagos, as part of its “PROTECT OUR COAST” environmental campaign.
Held to mark World Cleanup Day 2026, the exercise resulted in the collection of approximately two tonnes of waste and marine litter, including plastic bottles, sachet-water nylon, food packaging, cans and glass.
The initiative was organised in partnership with Shoreline Euphoria Limited and RESWAYE, with the collected waste separated into recyclable and non-recyclable materials.
Recyclable materials were channelled through appropriate recycling pathways, while residual waste was evacuated in partnership with the Lagos State Waste Management Agency.
Turning Environmental Messaging Into Action
For Optimus Bank, the clean-up provided a practical expression of its environmental campaign, bringing employees and community stakeholders together around an issue affecting Lagos' coastline.
The scale of the waste collected also highlights the volume of discarded materials entering coastal environments and the role that organised community action can play in addressing the problem
By involving its employees directly, Optimus Bank has extended the campaign beyond communication and awareness into participation, giving staff an active role in the environmental initiative.
Building Community Participation Around Sustainability
The partnership with Shoreline Euphoria Limited and RESWAYE also brought multiple stakeholders into the exercise, combining corporate participation with community and environmental action.
The separation of recyclable and non-recyclable waste further supports the clean-up's environmental objective by ensuring collected materials are handled according to their potential for recovery and disposal.
The initiative forms part of Optimus Bank's broader “PROTECT OUR COAST” campaign, using a visible community intervention to reinforce its focus on coastal protection and environmental responsibility.
